Bear Chase Brewery’s Kodiak Kolsch Wins Silver Medal at Virginia Cup
Beer also Wins Accolades at Great American Beer Fest in Fall 2020
Bear Chase Brewery’s Kodiak Kolsch was recently awarded the silver medal in the Kolsch category by the Virginia Brewers’ Guild.
Silver medal at the “Virginia Cup”
Held at the Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in Richmond on August 23, the award was presented at the Guild’s annual “Virginia Cup” event that annually honors the state’s best homegrown brews. The Kolsch award is one of 20 that the guild bestows upon Virginia breweries each year.
Silver medal at the “Great American Beerfest”
Last fall, BCBC’s Kodiak Kolsch also garnered a silver medal on the national stage, when it was heralded by the American Brewer’s Association as the nation’s second-best Kolsch at its annual “Great American Beerfest” event. Achieving a silver medal at that event – held virtually because of the COVID pandemic – was an amazing win for Bear Chase, as this event is widely recognized as the nation’s preeminent beer festival and competition, with hundreds of applicants in each category.
“This proves what a great beer our Kolsch really is,” said Bear Chase’s general manager, Chris Suarez. “We always knew we had fans locally, because that beer is a big hit at the brewery,” he said. “But now we know that it has appeal on both a national and statewide level as well, and that is really exciting.”
Appeal beyond the Blue Ridge
According to Suarez, achieving these accolades will help Bear Chase better market its Kolsch on a broader scale. Already launched as our flagship beer for distribution, winning these two prestigious medals helps cement the Kolsch’s pedigree and will encourage customers around the country to purchase it with confidence. Thanks to its growing appeal, Bear Chase has begun selling the Kolsch in select markets outside of Virginia.
“Winning this award shows that we have a great company, with excellent service that can produce a really great beer that people love. Being recognized for that is a great honor,” Suarez said.
