Bear Chase Brewing Company (BCBC) will release Doctor’s Orders, a new light summer “radler” style lager, July 10 at a public release event. Virginia Hospital Center, now called VHC HealthTM, will be the beneficiary of all sales of this limited-release beer. BCBC also is producing a commemorative stein that acknowledges VHC as the beneficiary of all sales.
Doctor’s Orders came about after BCBC Brewmaster Charles Noll was a patient at VHC last year. Charles was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and he needed the kidney and tumor removed. Dr. Timothy Kim performed the surgery, and Charles was supported by several departments and units at VHC. He spent time recovering in one of VHC’s medical/surgical units.
Charles was and is very grateful for the extra time and effort the team spent helping him through some rough moments during recovery. To express appreciation for the exceptional care from the hospital and its staff during a tough time in his life, Charles wanted to make a special beer to honor the hospital.
BCBC collaborated with hospital staff members, who were given the opportunity to help make, as well as name, the beer.
Members of the VHC clinical staff and leaders from the VHC HealthTM Cancer Resource Center and Health Promotion teams will be hosting resource tables at the July 10 event. The Health Promotion team will lead activities for the Brewery’s patrons. Be sure to do just what the doctor ordered and come enjoy this fun, family-friendly event!
